Scooter
Easy parking and freedom to move on your own schedule make a scooter flexible, but it is not necessary for every visitor and is not our default recommendation for inexperienced riders.
- Phuket's hills, sudden rain and unfamiliar road layouts can catch out riders used to easier conditions.
- Legally, you need a valid motorcycle-licence category from home plus an International Driving Permit (or a Thai-issued motorcycle licence) — check the current requirement before you rent.
- A helmet is required by law for both rider and passenger.
- Insurance can be voided if you ride without the correct licence or permit, even if the rental shop hands over the scooter.
